faq:
  - q: "What is the difference between Coinbase Onramp and a business off-ramp API?"
a: "Coinbase Onramp lets your users buy crypto with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or Coinbase balances and send it to a wallet. A business off-ramp API like BlindPay lets your company convert stablecoins into local currency and pay recipients' bank accounts over rails like Pix, SPEI, ACH, and SEPA. One serves consumers buying crypto. The other serves companies paying people and suppliers."
  - q: "Who is the merchant of record in Stripe's crypto onramp?"
a: "Stripe is. As of October 2026, Stripe's docs say it acts as the merchant of record for onramp transactions, assumes full liability for fraud and disputes, and handles KYC and sanctions screening. That suits apps that want consumers to buy crypto without the app taking on that liability. Access requires an onramp application, which Stripe says it reviews in most cases within 48 hours."
  - q: "Can Coinbase Offramp pay out to bank accounts outside the US?"
a: "As of October 2026, Coinbase's docs list Offramp payouts as US ACH bank transfers, PayPal in select countries, and Coinbase account balances. The user completes the cash-out on a Coinbase-hosted page and sends crypto to a Coinbase-managed address within a 30-minute window. For payouts in reais, pesos, or euros to local bank accounts, check the current country list in Coinbase's docs or use a payout API."
  - q: "Which one should a company use to pay suppliers abroad?"
a: "A business off-ramp API. Supplier payments need your company verified through KYB, a locked quote showing the exact local amount, and delivery over the recipient's local rail. BlindPay locks payout quotes for 5 minutes and pays out over Pix, SPEI, ACH, RTP, SEPA, Faster Payments, and SWIFT (POBO/COBO), among other rails. Consumer onramps are built for individuals buying crypto."
  - q: "Do Coinbase Onramp and BlindPay compete?"
a: "Mostly not. They sit on different sides of a product. A wallet or consumer app can use Coinbase Onramp or Stripe's onramp so users buy crypto, and use BlindPay for business flows such as collecting bank transfers into stablecoins or paying out to local bank accounts. The deciding question is whether the customer is a person buying crypto or a company moving money."

Coinbase Onramp and Stripe's crypto onramp let your users buy crypto in a hosted or embedded checkout run by the provider. A business off-ramp API like BlindPay lets your company convert stablecoins into local currency and pay recipients over Pix, SPEI, ACH, SEPA, and more. Consumer purchase versus company payout.

The names overlap, which is why teams mix them up. "Onramp" on all three websites. But Coinbase and Stripe built checkout products for individuals, and a payout API is built for the finance team of a company. This page compares them on the questions that decide the fit: who the customer is, where money ends up, and who owns the risk.

**Key takeaways**

- Coinbase Onramp and Stripe's onramp sell crypto to consumers. BlindPay moves money for businesses.
- Stripe is merchant of record for its onramp and takes fraud and dispute liability, as of October 2026.
- Coinbase Offramp pays out to US ACH, PayPal in select countries, and Coinbase balances, per its docs.
- A business payout needs KYB, a locked quote with the exact local amount, and the recipient's local rail.
- Many products need both: a consumer onramp for users and a payout API for the company.

## What do Coinbase Onramp and Offramp do?

They move value between fiat and crypto for your app's users. As of October 2026, Coinbase's [developer docs](https://docs.cdp.coinbase.com/onramp/docs/welcome) describe:

- **Onramp:** fiat in, crypto out to any wallet address. Coinbase-hosted or Headless. Payment methods include debit cards, non-US credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, US ACH, and Coinbase balances. 200+ cryptocurrencies.
- **Offramp:** crypto in, fiat out by US ACH, PayPal in select countries, or a Coinbase balance. Coinbase-hosted only.

The [Onramp overview](https://docs.cdp.coinbase.com/onramp/onramp-overview.md) adds the operating details. Hosted Onramp is "Global for Coinbase users." Headless Onramp is US-only, cards only, "Up to $2.5K weekly for cards." Guest checkout in the hosted widget was discontinued on June 30, 2026, and hosted Onramp lists "No developer fees."

For Offramp, the [Offramp overview](https://docs.cdp.coinbase.com/onramp/offramp/offramp-overview.md) says the user confirms on a Coinbase-hosted page, then sends crypto onchain to a Coinbase-managed address, inside a 30-minute transaction window. Your app handles that transfer.

## What does Stripe's crypto onramp do?

It lets your customers buy crypto from your platform at checkout, with Stripe taking on the consumer-side risk. Stripe's [onramp docs](https://docs.stripe.com/crypto/onramp) say Stripe acts as merchant of record, "assumes full liability for all fraud and disputes," and handles KYC and sanctions screening.

There are three ways in: a Stripe-hosted page at crypto.link.com, an embedded onramp for your website, and embedded components in a mobile SDK. You submit an onramp application first, and Stripe says it reviews most within 48 hours. The hosted version is in public preview.

That's a strong offer for a consumer app. You add crypto purchase without becoming the seller of the crypto. If your question is broader, about Stripe's stablecoin products and Bridge, [Is Stripe a stablecoin API?](/resources/more/is-stripe-a-stablecoin-api) covers it.

## What does a business off-ramp API do?

It pays out of a company's stablecoin balance into recipients' bank accounts, in their currency, over their local rail. On BlindPay:

- **Your company is the customer.** Businesses go through KYB Standard, which takes 3 hours to 1 business day of manual review ([KYC](/docs/kb/kyc)). Individual customers use KYC Standard, usually about 60 seconds.
- **Every payout has a locked quote.** The quote fixes the rate and fees for 5 minutes, and can be shorter on SEPA and Faster Payments, and returns `sender_amount` and `receiver_amount` ([payout quotes](/docs/payout-quotes)).
- **Named local rails.** ACH, domestic wire, RTP, SWIFT (POBO/COBO) with UETR tracking and MT103 confirmations, Pix, PIX Safe, TED, SPEI, ACH Colombia, Transfers 3.0, SEPA, and Faster Payments ([payment methods](/docs/kb/payment-methods)).
- **Both directions.** Payins collect bank transfers, including ACH, wire, RTP, Pix, SPEI, PSE, and Transfers 3.0, and settle them as stablecoins.

Pricing is a monthly plan plus per-transaction fees that vary by rail and network and are disclosed in the live quote before execute. There's no static rate card to compare against, so compare quotes.

## How do they compare side by side?

As of October 2026, from each provider's docs:

| | BlindPay | Coinbase Onramp / Offramp | Stripe crypto onramp |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Built for | Businesses collecting and paying out | Your app's users buying and selling crypto | Your platform's customers buying crypto |
| Who is verified | Your business (KYB) and your customers (KYC/KYB) | The end user | The end user, by Stripe |
| Money in | ACH, wire, RTP, SWIFT, Pix, TED, SPEI, PSE, Transfers 3.0 | Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, US ACH, Coinbase balances | Stripe's onramp checkout |
| Money out | Local bank rails in the US, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, SEPA zone, UK, plus SWIFT | US ACH, PayPal (select countries), Coinbase balances | Crypto to a wallet |
| Price | Locked quote, 5 minutes | Session token expires in 5 minutes; Offramp 30-minute window | Shown in Stripe's checkout |
| Merchant of record | Your business runs its own product | Check Coinbase's terms | Stripe |
| Integration | REST API, SDKs, MCP server | Hosted or Headless | Hosted, embedded, mobile SDK |

One cell to read carefully: Coinbase's 5-minute limit is on session tokens, which are single-use access tokens, not a locked price. [How long a payment quote lasts](/resources/more/how-long-does-a-payment-quote-last) compares price locks directly.

## Illustrative example: how would each pay a supplier in Mexico?

Illustrative example. A US company owes a Mexican supplier MX$185,000 and holds USDC.

**With a business off-ramp API**, the company adds the supplier's CLABE once, then requests a payout quote with `currency_type: receiver` and `request_amount` of 18,500,000 (MX$185,000.00 in minor units). At an illustrative 18.50 MXN per USDC, the quote shows about 10,000 USDC plus the fee lines. The company executes within the window, and SPEI delivers in minutes. The supplier sees exactly MX$185,000.

**With a consumer onramp or offramp**, the flow starts from a person, not a company. The listed Offramp payout methods are US ACH, PayPal in select countries, and Coinbase balances, so the supplier's peso account is outside what the docs list. The product isn't wrong. It's built for someone cashing out their own crypto.

| Step | Business off-ramp API | Consumer onramp or offramp |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who starts it | The company's backend | An individual user |
| Recipient | Supplier's bank account | The user's own account |
| Amount fixed | MX$185,000 received | What the user chooses to sell |
| Rail | SPEI | Methods in the provider's docs |

## When do Coinbase or Stripe fit better?

When the customer is a person buying crypto. Three cases:

1. **A wallet or consumer app** that wants users to buy crypto with a card or Apple Pay. Coinbase Onramp and Stripe's onramp both run the checkout, and Stripe also handles the user's KYC.
2. **You don't want consumer fraud liability.** Stripe's merchant-of-record model takes disputes and chargebacks off your books.
3. **Your users already have Coinbase accounts.** Hosted Onramp is global for Coinbase users and moves balances they already hold.

If you're weighing a hosted widget against an API in general, [on-ramp widget vs API](/resources/more/on-ramp-widget-vs-api) covers that decision, and [on-ramp aggregators vs a direct ramp API](/resources/more/onramp-aggregators-vs-direct-ramp-api) covers routing across many consumer providers.

## Can you use both?

Yes. A consumer app can offer Coinbase or Stripe for users buying crypto, and use BlindPay for the business side: collecting bank transfers into stablecoins and paying out to local bank accounts. Route by who the customer is. [Paying suppliers in Brazil and Mexico from a US bank account](/resources/more/pay-suppliers-brazil-mexico-from-us-bank-account) walks through the business flow, and [how on/off-ramp providers make money](/resources/more/how-onramp-offramp-providers-make-money) explains the pricing behind each model.

## What to do next

If your recipients are companies or contractors with bank accounts abroad, create a payout quote on a BlindPay development instance for one real corridor and check the `receiver_amount`. The [payout quotes docs](/docs/payout-quotes) list every field.
